What type of problems or people do I see?

I have treated many types of problems (sexual, existential, marital, familial, abuse, depression, anxiety, and so on).  The problem is not what is important, what is important is that you are able to talk and feel listened to.  Feeling listened to is not a commonplace experience for many of us.  To be able to listen to another individual one must possess tools, experiences, and education.  To listen takes more than a pair of ears.  The ability to listen requires knowledge about the complexity of human behavior.  In my therapy, you will feel listened to, and this is the first step in therapeutic change.

The Goal

It is simple.  The goal is for the patient to understand their issues emotionally and cognitively.  Following that, you can decide what role the problem will take on in your life.  After a therapeutic exploration with me, you will have the tools need (emotional and cognitive) that will help you decide what to do with your problem.  Sometimes, the exploratory process in itself is enough to make the problem go away; sometimes you need to make a decision as to how to proceed.  You may decide that the problem has some function or maybe not.

In general, people find that when one problem disappears, another surfaces.  Therapy is not so much about getting rid of problems, but rather about embarking on a process of exploration that will result in defining a life that is more plentiful and fun.
